Approximately 7 hours per week

What will you learn?

Module 1Introduction to the Internet

Understand how the Internet is made up, how to get connected through computers and mobile phones, and why the Internet is important today.
Module 2The Internet Browser and Internet Communication Tools

Use web browsers (Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome) effectively and power use email, calendaring, VOIP (Skype), instant messaging and discussion forums.
Module 3Search Engines

Use Google to answer any question or solve any problem. Learn how to do this quickly and easily.
Module 4Online Research

Perform detailed research, use Google Earth, Wikipedia, YouTube and other useful sites to do research.
Module 5Managing Information

Use your Windows, Mac or Linux computer to effectively manage your files.
Module 6Information Security and Transacting Online

Avoid viruses and don't fall prey to phishing and identity thieves. Know what to look for to be safe online. Buy things with PayPal, take part in eBay auctions and sell online.
Module 7Social Networking

Use Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn like the Professionals.
Module 8Publish Yourself

Become a blogger, vlogger (video blogging), podcaster and stream live video. Share your important occasions using live video with friends and family overseas.
Module 9Mobile Technology

Use SMS, MMS, GPS, video chat and the mobile web - all from your mobile phone.
Module 10Ongoing Education, Web Culture and Responsible Netizens

Understand web culture, how to interact appropriately online, and how to use the Internet to learn every day. 

Who Should Attend This Course?

The course is suitable for anyone wishing to improve their understanding of the Internet and its tools. More specifically, the course is suited to novice and intermediate Internet users.

  • Novice’ users are defined as people who have a basic familiarity with computers, but have had limited experience of using the Internet.
  • Intermediate’ users are defined as people who use an email client and/or a web browser on a daily basis, and wish to expand their use of the Internet by discovering a comprehensive range of Internet tools and best practices for their use.
