I have been amazed by how little I know. And I am a regular internet user. It’s the small tricks that I didn’t know, things that are going to make working online so much more effective. The online learning model works for me! I work when I get the gap. As a parent of young kids it is very important for me to know I can still be equipped in the "real world". I was hesitant at first but I will now only study in this manner.

Initially I thought it was too expensive and felt a little selfish spending so much money on myself. Now I think it was worth every penny. The GetSmarter online learning model is very convenient as I can learn when it suits me. No travelling and traffic! Further reading, feedback and help are fast and efficient from both co-students and lecturers. The administrative support is absolutely great! The staff are very helpful and give good, constructive comments that enhance my learning. The course material is well put together and comprehensive, covering a wide area with lots of references and further reading suggestions. I find the reading very easy for an Afrikaans-speaking person. I really enjoy the course.

As a virtual newcomer to online distance learning I am finding the whole experience uplifting. It is hard to believe that a few short weeks ago my internet experience consisted of sending and receiving emails and the occasional tentative visit to a website. With every passing week, my confidence in my ability to use a computer in general and the internet in particular grows and grows. The amount I have learned in a very short space of time is amazing.
The way in which notes are made available and assignments are delivered and submitted is easy and uncomplicated. On the whole, a successful method of learning. In addition, the video lectures are fun and very informative.

I would certainly recommend this course to anyone who has a good general knowledge of computers and how the internet works. I personally feel that I am working above the level of my competency. I have found the GetSmarter online learning model to be very professional and the discussion forum to be extremely helpful. Masha is so good about coming straight back to us with helpful information and tips for where we might be going astray.

This really is a very good course and I am delighted that I have embarked on it. It is informative, practical, and gives one real skills. This is by far the best way to complete a course. It suits me to study in the time available to me. Using this online learning model, there is a lot of interaction with the staff and with other students, so it is not isolated at all. The assignments are very well structured. The fact that the practice quizzes and assignments are structured the way they are forces me to not only read and get a basic understanding of internet usage, but also to apply the knowledge practically. This course could not have come at a better time for me. I already had an idea that I would need to use this type of knowledge, and this course is giving me the tools to do it.

I have enjoyed gaining new knowledge from the well-written and easy to understand notes, as well as from the discussion forum. The discussion forum, with its emphasis on provision of additional information, provides an extra opportunity to acquire knowledge. I think the learning model is excellent. It provides opportunity gain knowledge about a subject at a time and place which is both convenient and practical. The inclusion of the discussion forum as a method of resolving queries that should arise from the course material makes the learning feel less distant and to an extent substitutes for attending lectures in person. Since the course is aimed at beginners and intermediate users, I think the coverage is appropriate. It is providing necessary knowledge to help me going forward.

I am very pleased that I was prompted to do this course as I have certainly learned a great many new skills and I am feeling a lot more comfortable with my computer. This learning model of studying is fantastic.  It is the first time I have ever encountered anything like this and I have to admit I was sceptical at first. It has turned out to be just great. Modules are received timeously, the quizzes are in a format that is very user friendly and it has been easy to submit assignments. The links to further readings have also been easy to access. All the course material has been extremely well presented. The different chapters have been easy to read, the explanations have been clear and easy to follow and the content matter has very interesting.

I find the GetSmarter delivery model offers an ideal combination of excellent reference notes for study purposes - being an older student I like being able to print them out and read and refer to them in hard copy form! The discussion forum gives a feeling of community, as I said, quite apart from its very practical objective of providing additional information and sorting out of problems. The discipline of weekly assignments bolsters one's own motivation - I suspect that without it I might have fallen behind at some stage! The practical exercises and quizzes are an excellent way of reinforcing learning and ensuring that we actually study the course notes.
