Meet Carol Tissiman

Carol Tissiman is an experienced labour law consultant and the Course Convener for the UCT Effective People Management course and the UCT (Law@Work) Practical Labour Law course.

Carol Tissiman is an authority in the field of South African labour law. In 1982 Carol qualified at the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Social Science Degree.  She moved immediately into the Human Resources field where for the past 28 years Carol has acted as an HR consultant to large and medium sized businesses, consulting firms, local authorities, franchise operations, NGO organisations and Public Sector entities.

Carol’s thorough and practical understanding of labour legislation has led to her compiling and producing operating policy and procedure manuals, as well as staff recruitment processes for major corporate clients. Carol has designed and set up numerous HR administrative systems, including record-keeping, contractual agreements and employee benefits management to comply with company policies and legal requirements. She has also introduced systems and consultative structures for the resolution of conflict in the workplace, and for the development of processes to improve the internal and external relationships at work. Her more recent work has included running workshops in organisational development and basic business skills.

Carol believes that sound employment practices are the foundation of healthy employment relationships, where expectations of both the employer and employee are clear. To be successful, organisations need satisfied, well-managed employees who will, in turn, keep customers happy.
