In the information age, access to information abounds. Individuals across the globe have instant access to information that would have been difficult to find previously, but does access to information alone result in knowledge?

At GetSmarter, we're on a tireless mission to create an online education experience for our students which results in practical and relevant skills and knowledge. It is our belief that whilst good quality information is important, access to information alone is not enough. Real learning takes place when an individual takes part in a disciplined and structured learning process, with timely access to a subject matter expert, pro-active administrative support, and a community of fellow learners.

Our commitment to offering high-touch online education to our students has stood us in good stead, and 2011 has been a year of immense growth and discovery for us. We doubled our course portfolio,  moved to new premises, nearly doubled the size of our team, and launched an online education incubator.

This publication is an effort to share our journey with you, and highlight some of the incredible people who have made this growth possible. We are fortunate to find ourselves in partnership with exceptionally forward-thinking individuals at the University of Cape Town and Random House Struik. We also have the privilege of working with industry experts from around the country as course conveners, and the full-time team at GetSmarter HQ – without whom, none of this would be possible. Most importantly, we learn every day from our students, and continue to refine our offering to serve them better.
