Staff profile - Jennifer Clements
By The Training Team
Jennifer Clements Lawyer and Course Convener Can you tell us a little bit about yourself? I’m a born and bred Capetonian who has lived in Cape Town all my life bar one ‘gap year’ spent working and travelling overseas before I started studying. I studied law at UCT and have just completed my law articles. I am getting admitted as an attorney in the High Court on the 16th of April.
How long have you been working at GetSmarter / Paddocks Officially 2 years and 4 months but since it is my family’s business I have been around for a lot longer than that.
What do you do when you are not working? I spend time with my husband and my friends. I run, hike and go to gym. I organize and plan holidays, weekends away, adventures, and last year it was my wedding! I read. I do make-up and face painting. I’m always trying to learn new things, be it a skill or a discipline.
Why did you go into law? I wanted to be like those hardcore lawyer-chicks in Boston Legal! Just kidding! From a young age people suggested law was something I’d be good at and when I looked into it, it interested me. Law involves a lot of problem solving – which I really enjoy. I was also drawn to it because it was an academic challenge. Other interesting things about yourself you want to tell us about? On the 6th of May my husband and I are off to make some memories and are going on a working holiday around Australia for a year.
What have you learnt in the last year while working at Paddocks / GetSmarter? I’ve learnt that the online environment is becoming more and more important everyday in both my business and personal life and that I need some serious up-skilling in this area. Hence the reason I will be devouring the Internet-Super course notes ☺ It’s unbelievable what GetSmarter and Paddocks are achieving online and I’m super stoked to have played a small part in it.
What do you enjoy about working at Paddocks / GetSmarter? Sheez, where do I begin? The people, the awesome management style, the monthly massages, the food, the open attitude, the pink days, the green days, the high fiving – seriously, what’s not to like?! The thing that I enjoy the most though is the fact that I work with my family and get to see them everyday. What a treat!
