In this lesson, we’re going to learn when to hyphenate compound adjectives.
Here’s a final funny example: - He is a small business owner. (This means he is “a small and business owner” – in other words, you’re calling him short!)
- He is a small-business owner. (This is correct if you’re trying to say that he is the owner of a “small business”.)

- Define and understand your purpose.
If you set out to write business documents and you don’t have a very clear idea of the purpose of your document, neither will your readers (if they even finish reading it). Ask yourself, “What do I want to say and why do I want to say it. What result do I want from this letter/report/proposal?"
