We’ve looked at some commonly confused words already, but here are some more to pay attention to.
Fill and full
“Fill” is a verb that means to put as much of something into a container as it can hold, or to complete something.
• I filled the glass with water.
• Please fill out the registration form.
“Full” is an adjective that means that something has been filled to capacity.
• I’m so full after the buffet!
Peak and peek
“Peak” is a noun that means the very top of something.
• The mountain peak was white with snow.
“Peek” is a verb that means to glance at something quickly.
• I peeked at the forums and they looked very active.
Ad and add
“Ad” is a noun that is the shortened form of “advertisement”.
• GetSmarter put an ad in the Sunday Times.
“Add” is a verb that means to sum up numbers.
• What do you get if you add 5 and 7?
