GetSmarter, in conjunction with the University of Cape Town, is proud to present a suite of all-new business short courses, intended for businesspeople who want to turn their dreams and ideas into a profitable reality. The six business courses start later this year and are conducted entirely online through GetSmarter’s innovative online teaching platform.

With its six business courses – three brand new – GetSmarter is addressing the need for practical education on starting and managing all aspect of a business. Many exciting new businesses fail because of poor management, financial and project planning, labour disputes and lack of exposure; by taking the GetSmarter courses, you can make sure that you get your new venture off to a flying start. The courses are applicable to businesses in any industry, and are ideal for both owner and managers.

GetSmarter’s advanced and user-friendly learning model provides students with a personal and professional educational experience. Students work through the course material together and receive continuous academic and administrative assistance throughout the course. Each of the 10 modules includes course notes, discussion forums where students interact with one another, an interactive quiz and video lectures to make the course material more engaging.

Small business management
The 9-week University of Cape Town (Law@Work) Start and Manage a Small Business course walks students through every step of starting and running a small business – from registration to taxes, human resources and marketing. It is ideal for anyone looking to start a business, as well as for established business owners who want to overhaul and streamline their companies and processes.

Financial management
The 9- week University of Cape Town Financial Management for Non-Financial People course is an essential practical course for anybody dealing with, or interested in, financial matters. It is suitable to people who have no financial skill at all, and who want to break through the confusing jargon to get to the core principles of sound financial management and investment.

Internet marketing
The 10-week University of Cape Town Internet Marketing course teaches students the principles of marketing their business online, an environment that is constantly changing. Students will learn to harness the powerful tools available on the internet to catapult their business into public awareness, and will learn how to manage and maximise internet marketing projects.

Project administration
The 10-week University of Cape Town Project Administration course teaches students the principles of effective and efficient project management – an essential skill in today’s corporate world. Students will learn ho to maximise productivity while keeping costs and work hours to a minimum.

Labour law
The 8-week University of Cape Town (Law@Work) Practical Labour Law course is an essential overview of all elements of labour law that apply to businesses. Students will learn about the laws, regulations and best practices of managing staff, and will receive a range of useful, ready-to-use tools and templates.

Business writing
The University of Cape Town (Law@Work) Business Writing and Legal Documents course teaches all aspects of communicating correctly and effectively in English in the business world. Students will learn how to write correctly, draft important business documentation, and understand a range of legal documents.
